Basic Pump Installation and Maintenance

(Industry Recognized Methods for Long-Term Pump Reliability and Performance of the Webinar)

 Date: Thursday, July 10, 2025
Time: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM EST
  PDH Credits: 1.0
Overview:

This webinar covers the basics of pump installation and maintenance, focusing on ensuring efficient, reliable, and safe operation. Participants will learn industry-recognized methods to install and maintain key components, minimizing downtime and extending the pumps' service life. Key installation topics include pump location, foundation, baseplate/soleplate installation, grouting, system piping, pump-driver alignment, and lift (clearance) setting for vertical pumps. The session will also discuss basic maintenance practices, including reactive, predictive, and preventive maintenance, with a focus on bearings, packing, seals, and vibration.

Ideal for professionals, this webinar aims to enhance participants' understanding of pump installation and effective maintenance practices. The session will conclude with a concise summary of key insights, followed by a Q&A session to provide additional clarification.

Learning Level - Basic

This level of training is designed for individuals who are new to the subject matter. It covers basic concepts, skills, and practices. Participants acquire a foundational understanding of the topic and develop basic competencies.

Learning Objective:

  • Learn industry-recognized methods and considerations for pump installation, including ideal pump location, foundation, baseplate/sole plate, grouting, system piping, alignment, and lift (clearance) setting for vertical pumps.
  • Utilize maintenance practice metrics such as mean time between failure (MTBF), mean time between repair (MTBR), and availability to improve maintenance procedures, thereby minimizing downtime and extending the service life of pumps.
  • Understand the distinctions among the three basic maintenance practices: Reactive, Preventive, and Predictive. Grasp their application according to the criticality of the pump, failure patterns, and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Gain insights into essential preventive maintenance practices, including monitoring seal leakage, adjusting packing glands, checking vibration levels, inspecting lubrication systems and bearings, and performing regular inspections, all aimed at ensuring long-term pump reliability and performance.

Licensed Professional Engineers

Continuing professional development is a vital component of the engineering licensure process. Most state licensing boards require continuing professional development as a condition for licensure and renewal of the license to practice engineering. The acceptance of continuing education as it applies to fulfillment of the state licensing requirements for professional designations is at the pleasure of the individual state licensing boards. It is the responsibility of the individual participants to be knowledgeable about their state requirements. Pre-approval of training providers and courses is not required by most state licensing boards, except for the following:

Florida Board of Professional Engineers

Pump Systems Matter is a board-approved continuing education provider for the Florida Board of Professional Engineers: License # CEA361.

New York State Board for Engineering, Land Surveying, and Geology

Pump Systems Matter is approved as a sponsor of continuing education for professional engineers in New York State: NYS Sponsor # 241.
