Overview
Pump and system basics is designed to be the starting point for learning the fundamentals of pumps, their components and construction, and how pump systems are operated and controlled. Attendees will leave with an understanding of typical pump components, construction, installation, and maintenance considerations, as well as a detailed understanding of the pump curve and its interaction with the system curve.
Learning Level - Basic
This course is designed for individuals who are new to the subject matter. It covers basic concepts, skills, and practices. Participants acquire a foundational understanding of the topic and develop basic competencies.
This course will cover introductory content, but attendees would benefit from reviewing the Introduction to Pump Fundamentals On-Demand Training Course.
Audience
This course is perfect for anyone new to the topic including pump system operators, maintenance personnel and new engineers.

Jim Swetye
Former Vice President of Knowledge and Education for the Hydraulic Institute
Swetye Services, LLC
Jim Swetye recently retired after forty-three years of service in the pump industry. He worked in a variety of training, product management, marketing, and sales positions with Grundfos, Pentair Water, and Crane Pumps & Systems. Jim is also a former Vice President of Knowledge and Education for the Hydraulic Institute and a former member of the Board of Directors of Pump Systems Matter. He holds a Bachelor of the Arts degree in English from Hiram College and a Master of Science degree in Education from Emporia State University.
