Pump selection considerations for Rotodynamic and Positive Displacement Pumps
Date: May 14, 2025
Time: 1:00pm - 2.30 pm EST
PDH Credits: 1.5
Overview:
A recently restructured webinar that provides an overview of pump selection for both rotodynamic and positive displacement pumps. The webinar will cover application considerations, applicable standards, energy regulations and labeling, and a 13-step pump selection guide from initial system design to specification. Attendees will leave with a fundamental understanding of the important considerations involved in pump selection that will result in reliable and efficient operation. Key updates made to the webinar include: the addition of positive displacement pumps, the effects of viscosity, duration diagrams, charts depicting typical pump type range, and efficient selection example considering the operating point.
Learning Level – Intermediate:
Intermediate level training is designed for individuals who have some experience and basic knowledge on the topic.
It builds upon basic concepts and expands the breadth and depth of understanding supporting the development of skills.
Audience:
Individuals looking gain in depth technical knowledge or those looking for a refresher, including pump system designers, engineers, technical support, test technicians and engineers, reliability and rotating equipment engineer, and experienced maintenance and operation personnel.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will learn about the following:
- Types of rotodynamic and positive displacement pumps
- General application considerations for pump selection
- Applicable standards, and energy regulations and labeling
- 13-step process for pump selection including: Application type
- System design
- Pump design/type and speed of operation
- Pump performance

The acceptance of continuing education as it applies to fulfillment of the state licensing requirements for professional designations is at the pleasure of the individual state licensing boards. It is the responsibility of the individual participants to be knowledgeable about their state requirements.
Licensed Professional Engineers
Continuing professional development is a vital component to the engineering licensure process. Most state licensing boards require continuing professional development as a condition for licensure and renewal of the license to practice engineering. Pre-approval of training providers and courses are not required by most state licensing boards, except for the following:
Florida Board of Professional Engineers
Pump Systems Matter is a board-approved continuing education provider for the Florida Board of Professional Engineers: License # CEA361.
North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors
Pump Systems Matter is an approved continuing professional competency sponsor for the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors: Sponsor # S-0523.
New York State Board for Engineering, Land Surveying, and Geology
Pump Systems Matter is approved as a sponsor of continuing education for professional engineers in New York State: NYS Sponsor # 241.
