Radial Thrust and Shaft Deflection in Rotodynamic Pumps
Date: October 2, 2024
Time: 1pm EST
PDH Credits: 1.0
Overview:
This presentation provides engineers with a comprehensive understanding of radial thrust loads and shaft deflection in rotodynamic pumps. Attendees will learn key concepts, influencing factors, and calculation procedures for evaluating and managing radial thrust, as well as techniques to minimize shaft deflection and its impact on bearing and seal life. By the end, participants will be equipped to analyze and optimize pump designs for improved efficiency and reliability.
Learning Level - Intermediate
Intermediate level training is designed for individuals who have some experience and basic knowledge on the topic. It builds upon basic concepts and expands the breadth and depth of understanding supporting the development of skills. The basic level training within bundle modules 1, 2 and 3 prepare them for intermediate level training provided in bundle module 4.
Audience
Individuals looking gain in depth technical knowledge or those looking for a refresher on applied fundamentals, including experienced maintenance and operation personnel, pump system designers and owners, technical sales, and engineers.
Learning Objectives:
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of the concepts, definitions, and equations related to radial thrust loads in rotodynamic pump operation.
- Identify factors that influence the magnitude and direction of radial thrust, including impeller dimensions, impeller configuration, and discharge collector/casing design.
- Acquire knowledge of the calculation procedures used to evaluate radial thrust loads in rotodynamic pumps.
- Develop the ability to apply this knowledge and techniques to analyze and optimize pump designs, ensuring efficient and reliable operation by effectively managing radial thrust.
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of shaft deflection in rotodynamic pumps and learn how to analyze it to improve pump design, operation, and reliability while preventing potential failures.
- Recognize the causes of shaft deflection in rotodynamic pumps, understand the calculation procedures, and learn how it affects bearing and seal life, along with methods to minimize it.
