Overview of the HI Data Tool
 Date: Wednesday, October 14, 2026
Time: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Overview:

Learn about the HI Data Tool (https://datatool.pumps.org/), the resource that everyone in the pump and fluid handling industry needs. Formerly known as the HI Engineering Data Library, the Data Tool is a resource for engineers of different learning levels and specializations. This webinar focuses on the NEW resources included in the phase 2 launch of the site. The HI Data Tool is a FREE resource that covers pump types, definitions, references, pump & system fundamentals, fluid flow and friction loss, standard dimensions for pipes and fittings, and unit conversions and calculators.

Major updates in the Phase 2 HI DATA TOOL, which will be covered:

  • NEW preface section covering definitions, pump types, references, and resources.
  • Pump Fundamentals - NEW educational demonstrators for system curves, variable speed pump curves, and parallel pump curves.
  • Fluid Flow – Reformatted and updated the pipe loss and pipe fitting loss sections.
  • Pipe, Flange & Motor Dimensions – New sections covering steel, nonferrous, and PVC pipe, flange and NEMA motor dimensions.
  • Calculators – Expanded unit conversions, NEW PVC pipe to the friction loss calculator, NEW line shaft bearing losses, NEW tank volume calculators and NEW elevation effect on atmospheric pressure.

Learning Level - Introductory:

This level of training is designed for individuals to provide awareness and an overview of the topic. The content is informative and aims to familiarize participants with key concepts, terminology, and resources.

Audience:

Individuals looking for entry-level knowledge, applicable to engineers and sales professionals looking for a resource to support their day-to-day work.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will learn about the following:

  • Understand how to navigate the resources included in the HI Data Tool.
  • Rotodynamic and Positive Displacement pump types, definitions, references and resources.
  • Pump and system curve demonstrators to visualize how the operating point is affected.
  • How to access standard dimensions for pipe, tube, flanges and motors.
  • How to use calculators for units, friction losses, line shaft bearing losses, tank volumes, and the effect of elevation on atmospheric pressure.

Licensed Professional Engineers:

Continuing professional development is a vital component of the engineering licensure process. Most state licensing boards require continuing professional development as a condition for licensure and renewal of the license to practice engineering. The acceptance of continuing education as it applies to fulfillment of the state licensing requirements for professional designations is at the pleasure of the individual state licensing boards. It is the responsibility of the individual participants to be knowledgeable about their state requirements. Pre-approval of training providers and courses is not required by most state licensing boards, except for the following:

Florida Board of Professional Engineers

Pump Systems Matter is a board-approved continuing education provider for the Florida Board of Professional Engineers: License # CEA361.

New York State Board for Engineering, Land Surveying, and Geology

Pump Systems Matter is approved as a sponsor of continuing education for professional engineers in New York State: NYS Sponsor # 241.
